I believe it is very important for a person to be in full agreement with the church. Please also note the statement of faith.
1.) Qualifications for offices in the church: It is important for a person who holds an office in the church to be above reproach for the talk of the world. I believe that the Bible teaches that a preacher, pastor, missionary, or evangelist is to be free from being divorced and/or remarried. This would also includes those that preach in nursing homes and prisons. They must also be above the reproach of the world with their finances. I believe that a missionary, evangelist, and / or pastor should tithe to the church he is a member of. It is wrong for them to partly tithe to one church and partly tithe to another. I also believe that if a person will teach a Sunday School class, sing in the choir, hold a position in the church, he / she must have a life that is above reproach. To hold such a position and smoke, gamble, dress immodest, or work at places of questionable reasoning, the person should step down from their position. Our church will not allow a smoker, gambler, an immodest dresser in the week, or those that work at questionable places hold ANY position in the church.
2.) Quality for the house of God: God chose through the foolishness of preaching to save those that are lost. It seems as if many churches are more into entertaining than preaching. The house of God was never intended to entertain. I am glad I'm a part of a church that hold to preaching and not the drama, skits, the Hollywood version of a church. We are not trying to become more like the world but more like Christ. If we can get the clowns, puppets, ventriloquists, televisions, patch the pirate (murderer, a thief, whoremonger, a rapist, an adulterer - note this is the meaning of a "pirate") out of the churches, then we may be able to see the hand of God working once again. I'm not looking for a church when preaching is set aside for some people to come into the church acting like idiots, throwing spaghetti at each other on the platform, or acting like the three stooges. I am interested in hearing the Word of God, not some dietary idea that some hold. I am looking to find the Word of God in churches and not the talk of Amway, Co-op, insurances, Avon, or some other business. Give me the preaching of the Word of God without the changing of it. Yes, I like the old time preaching, praying, singing and shouting. I believe every service in the church can be a revival type of service. Once again give me the old time way and junk what we find in Hollywood.
3.) Quest of a godly family: I believe that a church should be involved in building families and not destroying. The Bible has always placed authority in its proper place. I still believe that the husband is the head of the family. The husband / father will answer to God for his family. The children are under the authority of the father until the time comes for the leaving and cleaving to take place. For any person to go against this authority, they have gone against the authority that God has laid down. It is a blessing to know that our church is interested in building homes for the glory of God.
Some may not agree with my stand. The Bible states " Let your moderation be known to all men." I believe it is time that the people know how a person believes and stands. Your convictions should be known. Your convictions should never be looked down upon by people that call themselves saved. Praise the Lord for those that still have some convictions and willing to stand for what is right. This is some of the reasons that I am no longer a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Leesville, LA as of Feb. 2004. I can not in good faith be partakers of doctrines and practices that are against the Word of God.
